As a chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society, we follow and endorse the general mission statement as follows....
The mission of the Society is to foster the science and art of natural resource conservation by carrying out activities and programs in professional development, conservation science, education, and public affairs.
This being said, our Chapter has issues and challenges specific to our jurisdiction. Our membership consists of a strong representation from both the public and private sector. As such we are positioned and have an opportunity to be the voice of effective soil and water conservation in the province. This statement can have many meanings, and in fact is meant to cover a wide range of activities. Specifically, we provide professional development through workshops, inter-disciplinary exchange of ideas, and the development of position statements on a variety of resource issues. It also means offering our voice through advocacy on issues pertaining to conservation. We also support education for all areas of conservation, including stewardship, especially at the grassroots level. Our primary objective and strength is in promoting Integrative Management, in part because of our broad perspective of the linkages between humans, the land and water. Through this perspective and activities we provide the voice for effective holistic planning of natural resources in order to achieve sustainability.
